About Me

Selfie of Glenn Scano

I am an artist from New York City who grew up surrounded by art and culture. My mother is an artist and clothing designer; my maternal grandfather was a musician and a songwriter, my maternal grandmother created ceramic figurines, and my mother’s sister is a fine artist and engraver. My father was a sculptor and pastels artist; my paternal grandfather was an engineer and a fine artist, and my paternal grandmother was a harpist and pianist whose father was the noted architect Angelo Zari.

I have always had a passion for gaining knowledge. Throughout my schooling, I was an Honors student, excelling in art, math, and English. From 1980 to 2010, I worked as an independent self–employed home improvement contractor specializing in restoring historic homes, and I have designed many architectural features, such as porches, moldings, cabinets, floor inlays, and tile designs. In the same time period, I also worked as a singer/songwriter and as a fine artist and craftsman selling my work at art shows and fairs; I also designed album covers, logos, and typography for bands, and in my spare time I wrote poetry, prose, and song lyrics. After a hard fall on the ice left me with a destroyed knee in 2010, my next logical step was to turn to art and design on and for the World Wide Web. I have since earned a degree in Web Graphic Design. I am now hoping the world will enjoy my poetry and prose, and that musicians will consider using my lyrics for their songs (for a small fee, of course).

In 2011, I illustrated and co-published the children's eBook "Monsters Do Ugly Things" with my lifelong friend, writer Mark Adam Kaplan. I also built the website, MonstersUnbound.com, to promote the eBook and its related products, which are also designed by me. In 2017 I completed the follow-up to “Monsters Do Ugly Things” with the children’s eBook “Monsters Grow Up,” which contains a font also created by me (also used on this website). In 2020 I completed the "Redux" version of "Monsters Do Ugly Things" to match the style of the follow-up book. Both eBooks are also available as printed paperbacks and as coloring books.

In 2021, I finally published my book of poetry, prose, and lyrics, titled "In Sanity (Pieces of Mind): Poetry, Prose, and Lyrics That Kept Me Sane" - available as both an eBook and a paperback exclusively on Amazon.
